Cat Mahjong - Play Chinese Mahjong Against Cat AIs

Game Objective

Form a winning hand of 14 tiles consisting of 4 melds (sets of three or four) and 1 pair (two identical tiles).

Turn Flow & Basic Play

Drawing: On your turn, a new tile is drawn automatically from the Wall and added to your hand (bringing it to 14 tiles).
Discarding: You must select one tile from your hand to discard. Tap/click a tile once to select it, then tap/click it again to discard it. This returns your hand to 13 tiles, and the turn passes.

Claiming (Chow, Pong, Kong, Hu)

When another player discards, if that tile can complete a set in your hand, a glowing Action Ribbon pops up at the bottom of the screen. Press the button to claim, or press Skip to ignore it:

Chow (吃): A sequence of 3 tiles in the same suit (e.g. 1-2-3 of Paws). Can only be claimed from the player on your left.
Pong (碰): A set of 3 identical tiles. Can be claimed from any player's discard.
Kong (槓): A set of 4 identical tiles. Can be claimed from discard or self-declared.
HU! (胡): Declares a win if the discarded tile completes your 14-tile winning hand.

To help you, the Hand Groupings Helper below your hand scans your tiles in real-time, showing your current Pairs, Triplets, and Runs at a glance.

Game End

The game automatically checks for winning hands. If you draw the winning 14th tile yourself, the game declares your victory automatically. If another player discards the winning tile, press the glowing HU! button in the Action Ribbon to claim the win.

Honors & Bonus Tiles

Winds & Dragons (Honors): These tiles do not have numbers. Because of this, sequences (Chows) are impossible with them. They can only be used to form Triplets (Pongs), Quads (Kongs), or the Pair (Eyes).
Flowers & Seasons (Bonus): These are not kept in your hand and cannot be used in melds. When drawn, they are automatically placed in your exposed set and a replacement tile is immediately drawn from the Wall for you.

Prevailing Wind & Seat Winds

The Prevailing Wind (shown in the HUD as Wind: East) represents the current Round Wind of the match:

Round Bonus: A Triplet (Pong) or Quad (Kong) of tiles matching the Prevailing Wind awards bonus scoring points to any player.
Seat Wind Bonus: A Triplet or Quad of your own Seat Wind (East for Dealer, South for the player to their left, West for opposite, North for right) also awards bonus points.
Wind Rotation: The Prevailing Wind starts as East. After a full round of 4 dealer rotations (where every player serves as Dealer at least once), the Prevailing Wind advances from East → South → West → North.

Game Length Options & Point Stack

Every player starts with a 💰 25,000 point stack (displayed in purple-bordered badges next to their avatar):

⚡ 1-Hand Flash Game: A single-hand showdown. The highest score after 1 hand wins!
🀄 4-Hand Quick Match: 4 hands total. The Prevailing Wind advances each hand (East → South → West → North). Highest cumulative score after 4 hands wins!
🏛️ Traditional Match: Full 4-Round Championship (16+ hands) with 4 hands per wind and dealer repeats.

Hand Payments & Point Transfers

Winning on Discard (Rong): The single player who discarded the winning tile pays the full hand value to the winner. The other 2 non-winning players lose 0 points.
Self-Draw Victory (Zimo): When drawing the winning tile yourself, all 3 losing players pay an equal 1/3 share of the total hand value.

Scoring Rubric & Bonus Points

Winning a hand (HU!) awards points based on the following breakdown:

Bonus Tiles (Flowers & Seasons)	+500 pts / tile	Each Flower or Season tile in your exposed bonus area.
Prevailing Wind Meld	+1,000 pts	Pong or Kong matching the current Round Wind (e.g. East).
Seat Wind Meld	+1,000 pts	Pong or Kong matching your Seat Wind (E, S, W, or N).
Dragon Meld	+1,000 pts	Pong or Kong of Red, Green, or White Dragons.
Exposed Kong (Quad)	+1,000 pts	Set of 4 identical tiles claimed from a discard.
Concealed Kong (Quad)	+2,000 pts	Set of 4 identical tiles formed entirely from hand.
All Triplets (Peng Peng Hu)	+2,000 pts	Winning hand composed of 4 Pongs/Kongs and 1 Pair.
7 Pairs (Qi Dui)	+3,000 pts	Special concealed hand consisting of 7 distinct pairs.
Fully Concealed (Men Qing)	+1,000 pts	Winning without claiming any exposed melds from others.
Self-Draw Victory (Zi Mo)	+1,000 pts	Drawing the winning tile yourself (split equally among all 3 opponents).

Paw Prints (Circles): Represented by paw marks.
Cat Silhouettes (Bamboo): Silhouette of cats with their tails high in the air.
Cat Faces (Characters): Cute minimal cat faces.
Winds (Honors): Cats facing their compass directions (E, S, W, N).
Dragons (Honors): Fierce flying cats representing Red, Green, and White dragons.
Flowers & Seasons: Cat chasing butterfly (Spring), Cat with sunglasses (Summer), Cat with pumpkin (Autumn), Cat with snowflakes (Winter), Cat among flowers (Flower).
